Isnt funny when you are in the middle of a normal everyday activity and something randomly happens that totally brings you back to childhood?

It happened to me yesterday when I was eating breakfast with a roommate. I was eating my French toast, minding my own business, when all of the sudden a KISS song started playing over the cafs speakers. It made me think of my mother. It was the song she used to sing me to sleep every night when I was a little child. She really got into it, too. For added effect, she would even wear the KISS makeup. Most kids would probably find it scary to see their moms put on KISS makeup and then sing rock n roll and heavy metal songs to them, but not me. To this day, whenever I see someone in full KISS makeup, I get so sleepy.

Not only was my mom good at tucking me and my brother and sister in at night, she was also a good at discipline. Whenever we misbehaved, she made sure we really learned our lesson. Most kids get sent to the time-out chair when they are bad. Our time-out was the oven. We would have to sit in there until we learned our lesson or until it got too hot in there, whichever came first. She never set the oven over 300 degrees, though, so we didnt burn too badly. The few burn scars that I do have each have their own story of mischief behind them.

Ok, so my mom wasnt really like that. I just think its a funny story to tell. Its especially funny to tell those stories to people who know my mother. You should see their faces of shock and disbelief. Especially since my mom is an early child specialist and teaches parenting classes. Can you imagine attending a parenting class and the instructor is telling you to put your children in the oven?

My mom did wash my mouth out with soap once, though, when I bit a girl at her birthday party, and that is a true story. Im not really sure why I bit the birthday girl in the first place, but Im sure she did something to piss me off.

So, other than that mouth washing incident (which looking back, I suppose was my own fault), I think I had (and still do have) a great mom.

Maybe I should save this story and give it to her for Mothers Day

(Edited to Add: I do love my mom. Today I just got a package of magazines and the latest episodes of 'Sex and the City' from her. She loves me, too...)
